So I said I would post some more story pages of Tech Ranger and here they are. I tried to just use ink nibs at first but I just didn't feel like it was my work. So I started playing around with brush pen and Eureka! It reminds me of Loud but it has a different energy about it. So after I'm done with this little preview story for Tech Ranger- which will be very soon- I'm gonna move on to finishing Loud. So here are the first 3 pages of "The Last Tech Ranger: To The Rescue".
Also Jodi Hoover and I will be selling our artwork and a bunch of other things at Chicago Comic-Con this summer on August 12-14. Come by and visit check out our work and feel free to buy anything on the table. Hope to see you guys there!

This is Pluto, he's an Ice Elemental! He makes the cold, the snow, and the ice. He hangs out with other elementals and has fun because they are all a playful bunch. He's weak against fire types but his best friend is Apollo the fire elemental. Together they just run around the world causing all sorts of crazy problems like climate change. You can't be mad at them though because those whipper snappers are adorable.

The Great Hunger is Upon Me!

Here is a redesign of The Devourer of Worlds, Galactus. Still trying to keep his outfit a little sleek, while also keeping the same color scheme. All this with try to make it Galactus. I think I did a good job of "modernizing" the helmet. The helmet is what makes Galactus recognizable, those two prongs sticking out of his head. Also the stone cold expression on his face. The hole in his chest is the energy that he has drained from worlds and when it gets dark in dim in there, he hungers for another planet. The holes in his hands and chest are to plug the machine that he uses, to feed off of planets, into him. He's a hungry hungry man.

Well hello there. Been a while hasn't it? How have you been? Good. Well I moved to a new place with a Cat in a Wal l. New ideas have been forming and a new story is being created as we speak. So Loud is still in production but was on a bit of a delay due to a loss of the script. But it was found and recovered so we're back on that. A new light bulb hit me while i was working on Loud.
A new story inspired by memories from my childhood, memories of Power Rangers. It opened up inspirations from all Power Rangers from Japan, the original versions of what some of us watched as kids. And the new stuff that's over there across the ocean. So yes, this new story is about a young man named Edward who was once part of a squad of teenage Superheroes called The Tech Rangers.
Something happened and his two teammates fell while saving their city. Monsters have seemingly perished and the city is quiet for 5 years. But what happens when only one man remembers the feats he's accomplished and an old evil starts to creep back into the streets? One hero rises again and unlocks a mystery of old enemies in a new world.

Happy late holidays friends. Been with family and such over the past month, hope you all enjoyed the holiday time. Took a teensy break working on Loud but I've got some writing and sketching down.
Over 2 years ago I started working on this beast. First time I've ever stuck with an idea because I felt that this was a story worth telling. So there are over 60 pages of this with more to come. Here is a glimpse of pages not yet seen.

Writing this story has been fun and testing my creative abilities. Plans for publishing and such will begin start to sprout from my head as the year goes on. Enjoy the artwork because the story is a little over halfway done, and there will be little peeks here and there to show where it is at. An update on the work for it by the way is Jodi Hoover will be editing and doing the colors for the Graphic Novel as we move closer to delivering it to the masses.

A submission for a poster contest for Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Trying to go in a direction that makes the poster look old and printed while still making it pop and look fresh. Another thing I implemented in the piece is the use of Kirby dots it looks kind of cool. I am liking the way that it came out. The colors pop!

I've been getting into the whole creepy pasta thing on the internet. Primarily they are scary stories that are being blogged everyday at various websites. I've fallen in love with the ones that have to do with old video games and video game cartridges. Here is a good one about the old Zelda game Majora's Mask . There are other pokemon ones as well. This illustration is inspired by the Zelda story on the prior link. Enjoy the story and the image!

Meet me in the stars!

A few updates of new images and works in progress. First is an embodiment, this one is called Creation, he who is the one that gives birth to worlds, and life, so that he may study all new things that grow and evolve.
Then a new piece that is spinning off from the series of Embodiments. It's a breed of adventure told through prose accompanied by a single image to help shape the audiences view of these worlds and adventure. The Wanderer is a mix of John Carter of mars and the Silver Surfer. These are process photos of the piece so check em out and I'll post a photo of it as soon as it's done.

So Chicago Comic-Con came and went but it was a great experience. A lot of passersby became interested in Loud and it's look and were asking what I was going to do about getting it published. I have to figure that all out but first i think that I have to complete the graphic novel first and I'm only about 20 pages into it. Many looked over Jodi's work as well as interested in buying prints and such. For the people who follow this blog and the people that I met at the convention thank you for the support and I promise Loud will be worth the wait. And to all of you, keep in contact.
So since I'm just moved into a new home and without my primary computer, I'll see what I can do about giving you some new illustrations to tide you over.

I couldnt show what i was working on yet and by tomorrow I meant in a week or so. Graduation things, shows, framing are taking up most of my time for the next few days. Here's a piece for the "Square Foot Show" going on in the Galaxie studio in 2 weeks.This painting is kinda deep on my thoughts about it. Kirby, Pope, Smith, and many other artists influenced it. I was challenging myself to use only brush and ink on this one, trying to get myself to steady my hand yet keeping a loose quality to the painting. If your in Chicago stop by the show.

So no new pieces but new sketches coming soon. And I'm also planning a Madman piece. So This post isn't gonna have any images attached to it. This is pure unadulterated me. So yeah a lot of things in this man's brain, Portfolio, Career Goals, Women, The End of School. The End of School, it's weird because normally nearly half our lives are taken over by it. So just gotta be prepared to jump to the next cliff and not look down.

Alright idea time:
Portfolio
-Comic Book Style
-Tales To Astonish format (or something to that effect)
-Have pages laid out like comic pages but not too busy so the audience can tell that they are looking at storyboards.
-Tagline idea "Attack Of The Marbotics"
-Have a Column of images on the Left hand of the cover with characters in the SB's
-Have a Vintage Comic feel to the entire layout
-Use a Wooden Portfolio(similar to rod's, yeh, i know rod i know)
Storyboards for Yeah Yeah Yeah's song "Phenomena"
-One Rotating Cube with several screens all of which change during the course of the song
-images will interchange between the band playing and a man going through weird occurences in his life.
-Things that happen to the man he touches his nighttable while getting up and it melts
-Looks in the mirror, his eyes light up.
-On beat the cube comes into view while rotating and the man is trying to escape a room but everything he touches melts or turns to glass or something to that extent.
-This would be best displayed as an animatic thinking about it right now.

There will be no right or wrong

Listening to canadian music soothes me it seems. That and reading Madman. Just kinda gives me a bright outlook on life and gets me thinking positive. A long while ago i wanted to talk about artists and people who influence me. Always trying to get better is what we're always going for some of these people and artwork just inspire and influence me.
Alright first up is Mike Allred comic give me a great feeling and make me believe in people, and it's a good thing that i have such great people around me. Will Eisner with his creation of the spirit just get me in the mood for retro and silly ideas that work great. James Jean's work is a huge inspiration because he has such a beautiful distinct style that pulls you in and the compositions make you look at every aspect of the piece. A lot of writers influence and inspire just because of the relationships that they write about and how they work authors such as Cory Doctorow and Irvine Welsh are great sources for this.
Obviously there are many more visual, audio, and thoughtful influences on me but that list is so long and I'm gonna litter them among these posts because if i try to feed it in here it may sound monotonous.

More practice with inking. Trying to keep the loose yet tight style that my pieces have. So far translating well. So first here is a personal favorite, The Phantom, and then a small sketch of Spidey.

After that i sketched out an older version of Snake from MGS4 to go with the younger version i drew at an earlier date. So here we are Snake age 30-40 then Snake age 50-60.

Figure Out How It Works

So with all of the freetime i kind of get in school with my extended breaks between classes i find
that i can sketch bigger and with watercolor. Prettier even? Also my teacher had lent me a comic called "Modesty Blaise", so now I have to check it out and read more of those comics and books. Its like a female version of James Bond with out the gadgets and all bad ass and sexy. Also, I was told by my teacher that the artist(Jim Holdaway) for the comic strip never did pencils for them he just went in with a nib and began drawing. Every strip was as strong as the last. So it was a method that really worked for the artist. I'm going to be trying that more again and the sketches I'm putting have no pencils to begin with i just went in with ink, nib, and a brush. I think they came out pretty strong. So looking back at these, I had a lot of fun doing them. So i think I'm going to approach some bigger pieces this way. Christmas time is coming and all of the holiday shopping is over. Woohoo.
After that I want to show you something, I had become obsessed with this ridiculous movie over night and I want to share it with you. The name of the movie is MACHINE GIRL and believe you me. All one needs to make a good movie is a girl+ machine gun/chainsaw arm. You have to love it if you don't you might not have a soul and you should check into that.

So yes, I go through the spurts of not posting. But I have been keeping myself busy. For school I have been working on many storyboards. My brother got married about 2 weeks ago. And I'm working on an illustration of the Band Interpol for one of my classes. And for that I'm using new technique. Just to show that i've been busy here are some sketches. And the painting that I have shown before in the penciled stage now i began painting it two weeks ago and it has been at this point for a little more than a week. I need to lay some brush strokes on it soon. Again I'll try and update more often. Goodnight.

I began my painting of the girl with the key in her mouth. I want to call it "unlocked". I've been very busy with school. Trying to get a more storyboards done to put into my portfolio. I do want to get into storyboarding and comic art as careers. I have also been sketching as i normally do and I have drawn some gems this week. So here they go...
The First one here is a character from of the Escapist stories. Really cool story about a female escapist trying to join the real Escapist, but he doesn't know whether to trust her becuase she might work for an evil organization. Anyway, I always like to draw the pretty ladies.
Another Midnight Rose sketch. I know you can't tell it's him but I just wanted to have one of those moments where the hero get's his 2nd wind.
And I'll just call this sketch, "The Crustacean Ressurection"

So yes a lot has been getting done. But for this week I will do two paintings for Assembly Required. I missed last week( I told you, BUSY). But now since I'm done with the storyboards I can get back to the weekly themes. Which i will be doing and posting onto that site.

So i got an idea while talking to Roderick and looking at his newest full blown painting. He was telling me about skeleton keys and I just think that they look really cool. So i wanted to add like a woman's face enticing the viewer. Have a kinda of look like come and get it if you think you need it. I just have to find a way to make the key more prominent. This is one painting i plan on planning? Also i would like to use this on my postcard and business card.

This blog has been in the back of my mind when it should be closer to the frontal lobe. My school year is back in full swing. And there is probably a sketch being done about every 3 hours now.

And since i'll be adding more sketches now every now and then more frequently, i'll have more things i'm reading and want to be reading or watching. Right now, not at this moment, but anyways, right now I'm reading crooked little vein. A book by Warren Ellis. It's very crazy and wild, slighty crazier than Irvine Welsh's books. It's a great book i recommend it to anyone who likes to read the word "the" you'll be surprised, shocked, and satisfied. I swear i thought i would go through my life without hear the words masturbation and godzilla in the same sentence. I didn't even think those two words would ever be connected. anyway read it.

School is almost ready to begin and I am awaiting to get back into the thick of the challenge of painting assignments but not those godforsaken written assignments for the academic classes. Been writing my story "Asleep" for which i am proud of taking initiative for. If you hang out with me i have told you about it. If not just ask and i can give you the gist. It's been a little more than ten days since i last posted something. A lot has happened in the past two weeks. Well not a lot but some major events. Wizard World chicago preparation and execution were two things that took up most of my time and money. It was well worth it. Also a great artist in the comic book industry passed away, and i know that its about 5 days late to say something but still, Mike Wieringo was a great artist and was an artistic inspiration to me. Also he made an impact on artists all over the web from penny-arcade to pvponline.com and all the artists on drawingboard. Just wanted to say even though i never really met him he still made an impact. Mike you're missed and still admired.

100 Fables, Myths, and Legends is back!

Heres the recent entry in the Series. Enjoy it. I've been a little sickly lately so i have had time. If you did not know this is the myth of Icarus. It was really difficult getting the feathers to look right in my eyes. I think i accomplished making them look like wings. Yellow and red were used to give a burning feeling to the painting. I gave this piece a little bit of chaos to show that this guy is not going to make it. I really like how it turned out.

Alright so sketchy sketching has been back in business as of late. Right now just dumping them here for all to see. Saw the Simpsons movie this past week, it was alright. A lot of what the Simpsons has been for the past decade, kinda dry of humor but it had it's moments. So yeah I have been on a Phantom kick for a while now and it will be pretty apparent with this new entry, so... here it goes.

And two women that have just been residing in my head for the past day or so. Not real by any means( is that weird?). Just characters I will use on a later date.

I have not posted in Forever! Mainly because I have been busy with work, tired, and not liking any of my sketches. Recently I have just been doing scribbles to see what would happen and nothing... Then I don't know how but I got the old mojo back. I think it started with me drawing myself.

And then i knew i got it back because i started drawing the Rocketeer and I was extremely happy with it.

And update on 100 Fables, Myths, and Legends. Painting 2 has started and it will be Icarus. It will be posted by the end of the week. With the stuff for Some Assembly Required. Mentioning that here are the paintings for the last two weeks if you don't wat to click the link...

Had kind of a long day. Also for the day i think i may have thrown out the simple line rule for some of my sketches today. Wanted to let the pen loose on the paper. As for the sketch from days before of Midnight Rose and Green Soliloquy, I finished it and i don't think i killed the entire thing. I think it looks pretty cool. Here it is...

I have also noticed that for some reason the old superhero i used to love as a kid has flashed back into my mind. He is the ghost who walks, The Phantom. I used to watch the old cartoon about the phantom in the future and used to love the movie with Billy Zane as well. I think i may look for some books with the Artwork from The Phantom. Who knows how he popped back into my memory. But, He's there...

Money For Nothing!

Thats what i need! So i haven't posted anything in few days... Sorry about that. Well here are some sketches that I have been working on. The first one is two of my characters called The Midnight Rose and The Green Soliloquy. Both superheroes but more masked crimefighters than anything else, these two characters i would like to say are inspired by the ideas of The Shadow and the Green Hornet, you know those kinds of characters. I have a story set up for them but i am always to busy to write and i'm also in the middle of writing something right now. Anyways, here is the sketch of Midnight Rose and The Green Soliloquy...

Next up is the newest sketch for the "Some Assembly Required Blog" The theme for this week is rock. First thing that popped into mind was the ever-loving blue eyed thing. This picture is kindly dedicated to a good friend of mine. Here you go Bryan! and whoever else is checking this out!

Alright here is the first pencil for the first topic at Some Assembly Required . I just have to do Mister Miracle for the New Gods topic. So i was trying to show him in a sticky situation and keep his cool. I like the escape artists from the real like Houdini to the fake like the Escapist. It shall be painted soon. Keep your eyes open.

She Has Freckles!!!

I just saw the movie Paprika. All i have to say is Brilliant!!! This will be a quick post. The movie inspired me a whole lot. The artistic style used and the way that dreams are incorporated into the storytelling. It was just insanely amazing. So it was awesome, blah blah.

I did two sketches i was happy with today. I think i am definitely getting a cleaner yet loose line style when sketching in pen so i am going to keep practicing with it. Heres a two page spread i did on the train after viewing the movie,

Strangely i found paprika attractive for a cartoon character, weird huh?

And after that something i threw together earlier today. It is of one of my favorite superheroes named Miracleman, so damn hard to find the graphic novels and when you find them they are expensive as hell.

Later this week you will be seeing two paintings coming. One is for the Some Assembly Required Blog. The other is for 100 MFL's named Icarus. I'll try and go in depth on the process but i really just need to do them first.

Oh well i mentioned it. So i switched what I am going to do after the Icarus painting. I am going to paint the tale of "The Scorpion and the Turtle". here is the first sketch for it, in glorious black and white! I think with all the MLF ( myths, legends, and fables) i am going to have the thread from the first sleeping beauty painting go through all of 'em so you will see a scribble looking thing in each sketch.
And after that a quick sketch of my characters Joeb and Alison.

Strange Days

Quick post, 3 sketches.

Alright Icarus is coming along i have it sketched out. I'll show everything at end. I received my new pen, a Tradio, awesome pen. It was expensive from the stuff i am used to using from value packs and everything but it worth it. The line waits are awesome and i can do a whole lot more than with a regular pen.

So today i was telling a friend that i caught a lot of people taking a glimpse at what i was sketching on the way home. Maybe a lot of people do know the Watchmen, specifically the character Rorshach. I think i am going to read this book again, yes it was that awesome. If you haven't read it you definitely should, even if you don't like comics its a really good story.

And not many people were caught looking at me sketch the escapist, the crowd on the train died down.

Sleepytime Beauty

Well it is late. I have finished this painting. With 100 myths and Fables beginning for me, now i have 99 more to go. Let's see what to say, Sleeping Beauty, ok. I remember when seeing the disney movie as a kid and she was spinning the thread, that image was burned into my head more than her just laying in a bed at the center of the castle. This was also for the Illustration Friday topic twisted but i did it too late. Anyway i wanted the thread to be all over the place and i think i pretty much accomplished that. First time using colored ink, i think in other paintings i will use it for line but i had the plan to use it specifically for the thread in this painting. Anyway with out further ado( is that how you spell it?)...

Next up i think i will do Icarus, i have a long way to 100...

Growth of Anticipation

I started a painting for a little site called illustration friday. You can check it out here. The painting is going to be the first in a long line and it's of a moment in the story Sleeping Beauty. I have a plan for a series of paintings based on fables, legends, and myths. Pretty simply I am calling it
100 Fables, Myths, and Legends. Heres the first sketch...

Here are two recent sketches i have done.

I've been trying to use less lines in my sketches and get sketches that are easier to read. Mind you all i have been using are pens but i guess its back to pencils for a time. Kind of just enjoy sketching in pen, it's like painting in watercolor, you have to know exaclty what you want to do and work with what you have and pull it to your advantage.

Hey guys. So, just saw the movie i was so hyped up to see, Transformers!!! Well rest assured it is not a waste of money. I got a new scanner in so better quality pictures of my artwork shall be posted soon! But for now a quick sketch i did while waiting outside the shedd aquarium last night before the movie.

Also this isn't from the day before but it is something i have wanted to post because of the characters I have a story for.

And after all that two sketches i enjoyed doing.

Long Work Day, Worthwhile Train ride

Well the taste of chicago started yesterday. So now the aquarium I work at is going to be packed! Oh what fun. So I'm kind of hyped up for the week because transformers is coming out! I have been a longtime fan, and now that im bringing it up i'll probably post a sketch up on a later date. I was sketching a lot on the train ride home here is what i came up with.

I kind of just kept drawing (what i normally do) no interesting people on the train to sketch either, or maybe i was just tired? Anyway here is my new mascot! I found him at work...
